The Department is divided in four sections: English Language Section, English Literature Section, American Studies Program, and Teaching English as a Foreign Language Section.<\/p>\n<p>The Department offers the following undergraduate (Bachelor\u2019s Degree) and graduate (Master\u2019s Degree) programmes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Undergraduate Programme in English Language and Literature (double major)<\/li>\n<li>Graduate Programme in Linguistics (single and double major)<\/li>\n<li>Graduate Programme in English Literature and Culture (single and double major)<\/li>\n<li>Graduate Programme in American Literature and Culture (single and double major)<\/li>\n<li>Graduate Programme in Translation (single and double major)<\/li>\n<li>Graduate Programme in TEFL\u00a0 (<strong>only double major<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There are 41 faculty members instructing approximately 600 students on annual basis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The Scandinavian Studies Section<\/strong>\u00a0was founded in 1994 as part of the Department of English. Until the 6th semester, apart from<em>Introduction to English literature<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Shakespeare,<\/em>\u00a0students must\u00a0 enrol in one literary course in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th semester (the total of five literary courses during undergraduate studies). One of the remaining three elective courses, be it British, American or Anglophone (Australian, Canadian, Irish), must be labelled as a 19th-century course and one as a 20th-century course.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0For students who enrolled in Year 1 of Bologna studies in the academic year\u00a0<strong>2006\/07 and later<\/strong>: Students enrolled in the 3rd and 5th semester select elective literary courses from the course list for the 3rd and 5th semester. Students enrolled in the 4th and 6th semester select elective literary courses from the course list for the 4th and 6th semester. Selection principle: one course in Early Modern literature or one course in Victorian literature; one course in British or American 20th-century literature; one course in British literature; one course in American literature. Each course fulfils two criteria (century + national literature).\u00a0<em>Introduction to English literature<\/em>\u00a0is the 1st semester obligatory course. Students must pass this course to enrol in any subsequent elective literary courses.<\/li>\n<li>Former course title: Societies and Cultures of the English-speaking World.<\/li>\n<li>Beginning with\u00a0<strong>2015\/16<\/strong>, the obligatory course \u201c<em>Introduction to the Study of English Literature<\/em>\u201c, held in the first semester of undergraduate study, is replaced with a modified obligatory course \u201c<em>Introduction to the Study of English Literature 1<\/em>\u201c. There is also a new obligatory course in the second semester, the \u201c<em>Introduction to the Study of English Literature 2<\/em>\u201c. This change in courses was approved by the Faculty Board on the 17th July 2015. Students who have taken the course\u00a0<em>Introduction to the Study of English Literature<\/em>\u00a0before 2015\/16 and have failed it, must now enrol into both introductory courses.<\/li>\n<li>For students who enrolled in Year 1 of Bologna studies in the academic year\u00a0<strong>2015\/16:\u00a0<\/strong>Regular attendance and active participation in\u00a0<em>Introduction to English literature 1<\/em>\u00a0is a minimal prerequisite for the enrolment in\u00a0<em>Introduction to English literature 2<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>For students who enrolled in Year 1 of Bologna studies in the academic year\u00a0<strong>2015\/16<\/strong>: Students enrolled in the 3rd and 5th semester select elective literary courses from the course list for the 3rd and 5th semester. Students enrolled in the 4th and 6th semester select elective literary courses from the course list for the 4th and 6th semester.
